A Remarkable Trek Across Nepal with Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Fenn
More than 120 members and guests gathered at the VSC last Friday evening to hear Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Fenn recount his remarkable trek across Nepal in support of the Gurkha Welfare Trust, Nepal.
Welcoming Johnny to the Club, General Manager Mark Field highlighted Johnny’s longstanding association with the VSC, which includes taking many of the official photographs of royal visits. Mark also outlined the VSC’s charitable activities, explaining how its Respite & Welfare Breaks support serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families. He explained that proceeds from the evening itself would be shared equally between this work and The Gurkha Welfare Trust.
Through vivid storytelling and striking photography, Johnny offered a fascinating glimpse into the remote communities he visited and the people he met along the way. His photographs captured the warmth, character and smiles of those who helped make the journey so memorable.
Accompanied by two guides, Johnny described how food was sourced and cooked along the route, with one particularly welcome weekly treat: egg and chips on Tuesdays.
The presentation prompted plenty of questions from an engaged audience, with Johnny happy to share further details of his experiences.
At the close of the evening, attendees had the opportunity to obtain a signed copy of his book, bringing together photographs and accounts from this extraordinary journey. Copies can be purchased directly from the thenepaliway.org.
The evening combined the spirit of adventure, photography and fundraising, giving members and guests a memorable insight into Nepal and its people.
