RAF100

On the 1st April 2018, the Royal Air Force will be celebrating its 100th birthday. To mark this occasion the RAF will be reflecting on their history and achievements, they’ll also be celebrating all the current work of the RAF and their plans for the next 100 years.

The centenary will be marked by a number of special events throughout the UK from April through until November. Below we’ve put together some of the key events taking place in London.


Centenary baton relay

Sunday 1st April - Tuesday 10th July

A specially designed baton will visit 100 sites associated with the RAF in 100 days. The Baton will begin
its journey from the Royal Courts of Justice on the 1st April and will end up 100 days later on the 10th July at Horse Guards Parade. More information about the baton’s journey will follow soon.

Wednesday 25th April

The Parliament Choir and St Clement Danes Choir
will join forces to celebrate RAF100 with a special concert at St Clement Danes on the Strand, the Central Church of the Royal Air Force.

Conducted by Simon Over and accompanied by Nicholas O'Neill, they will perform pieces including 'God be in my head', RAF March Past by Walford Davies (the first composer of the RAF), a commission to mark RAF 100, Walton's 'Spitfire Prelude' and 'Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines'.

Thursday 5th July

Celebrate 100 years of the RAF at this gala evening in the company of ex-Flight Commander and Tornado pilot Michael Napier. Enjoy a private viewing of the Royal Air Force Museum and admission to the new Centenary Wing (officially opening in July 2018) and a drinks reception under the wings of a Lancaster Bomber. The event includes a Q&A with Michael Napier and a signed copy of his book. You’ll also dine underneath a 1944 Short Sunderland and there will be live music from the era.

RAF centenary service
and flypast 

Tuesday 10th July

A ticketed service will take place in Westminster Abbey to mark the 100th anniversary of the RAF followed by a reception on Horse Guards Parade. However, if you weren’t able to get tickets, you can still watch the centenary parade and the mass flypast over The Mall.


RAF100 aircraft tour

Dates throughout the year

The RAF100 Aircraft Tour will be coming to a city
near you. Get up close to a selection of aircraft.
The tour will arrive at Cardiff, Horse Guards Parade, Newcastle in Northern Ireland, Birmingham,
Glasgow and Manchester.

September 2018

A service to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Battle of Britain will take place in September in 20 Deans Yard London. More information and dates will follow soon.
