Fun-filled bank holiday weekend

For many the August bank holiday signals the end of the summer, as schools re-open and you head back to the work after a long summer break. Fear not, there’s still one last fling with summer before you head back in to the depths of the office. We have pulled together a few great ways to spend the bank holiday weekend in London with family and friends – or solo! Oh, and be sure to pack your camera, there will be great photo opportunities along the way.

Notting Hill Carnival

From 26th August - 28th August

Known as London’s biggest street party, Notting Hill Carnival is a celebration of Caribbean culture, it is an annual celebration awash with beautiful colours. Watch in awe as the elaborate floats and colourful costumed performers wind their way through the streets in the parade, dance to the sound of steel bands and calypso music, and visit the tempting food stalls along the route.

London Zip Wire

If you love adventure, you will love this. Zip World recently opened the world's biggest, fastest, city zip-wire in Southbank London. If you’re brave enough, it is well worth a visit for the stunning views over London, including views of the London Eye and Big Ben.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

Head over to Southbank and join the many visitors from all over the world to take part in workshops, lectures and staged readings at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. Alternatively, if you've got stage fright, you could visit the exhibition, tour the Globe Theatre, or watch productions, including world premières of new scripts.

Chai Ki

It’s the most important meal of the day, but the bank holiday means it’s just that little bit more important, so you can tackle the busy weekend. Located in Canary Wharf, Chai Ki is an Indian restaurant which has an extensive breakfast menu with Eastern and Western influences. After breakfast you could enjoy the sights of Canary Wharf or pop in to the local shopping centres' for retail therapy.

Greenwich Peninsula Golf Range

Whether you’re good at golf (or not) the Greenwich Peninsula Golf Range is a great way to spend a few hours with family or friends. The driving range has views of the city, including Canary Wharf and the Thames, which look particularly stunning during sunset.

Foodies Festival

From 26th August - 28th August

At the Foodies Festival there is something for everyone, with locations all around London it’s a great day out for the entire family! The nearest location to the VSC is in Alexandra Palace.
