Celebrate The Platinum Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II
HM Queen Elizabeth II will be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee this year. Buckingham Palace has unveiled the entire programme of events to mark the occasion.
Celebrations this year will include the opening of the Queen’s private estate to the public and performances from some of the world’s biggest stars outside Buckingham Palace.
It’s not currently clear which events the Queen will be attending in person.
Here’s what to look forward to in the coming year.
May 12-15: Platinum Jubilee Celebration
Windsor Castle audiences will be taken through history in a 90-minute show featuring more than 500 horses and 1,000 performers.
Bank Holiday:
Queen's Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour)
2nd June
The 1st Battalion, Irish Guards, and over 1,200 officers and soldiers from the Household Division will parade the colours on Horse Guards Parade. Sandringham and Balmoral will also be open to residents and visitors during the Bank Holiday.
Platinum Jubilee Beacons
2nd June
The UK will join the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, and UK Overseas Territories as part of the Jubilee celebrations by lighting a beacon. The Principal Beacon will also be lit at Buckingham Palace in a ceremony.
June 3: Service of Thanksgiving
The Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen's reign will be held at St Paul's Cathedral.
Platinum Party at the Palace
From Buckingham Palace, the BBC will broadcast a special live concert featuring some of the world's biggest entertainment stars, celebrating the most important and joyous moments of The Queen's seven-decade reign. Members of the public will be invited to apply for tickets to this special event and details of the ballot for UK residents will be released in February.
The Derby at Epsom Downs
Saturday 4th June
Queen Elizabeth II will attend the Derby at Epsom Downs accompanied by members of the Royal Family.
Big Jubilee Lunch
Sunday 5th June
A series of street parties will be held to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. Neighbours are expected to come together over food and fun for a special Bank Holiday celebration.
Platinum Jubilee Pageant
Sunday 5th June
A pageant will present the history of the Queen's reign in London, including a "River of Hope" section made up of 200 silk flags that will flow through The Mall like a river.
July: The Royal Collection Trust
There will be three displays marking the Queen's accession to the throne, her Coronation, and her Jubilee at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Beating Retreat
July 5th, 6th and 7th
The sunset pageant, including horses, cannons and fireworks, is returning this year. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Featuring a colourful display of military music and precision drill carried out by the Mounted Bands of the Household Cavalry and the Massed Bands of the Household Division.
