D-Day 80th Anniversary Luncheon
Providing a fitting tribute to this event will be our guest speaker, VSC Member and retired Police Inspector, John Henri Gilbert. John is the son of a French-Canadian tank gunner of the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade. From his home in Devon, he now writes about Canada’s participation in ‘Operation Overlord.’ His specialist topic is the fierce and often brutal fighting to liberate Caen (a city, Hitler and his Normandy Legions refused to abandon), which was Field Marshal Montgomery’s D-Day objective.
Music will be provided by our guest vocalist, the talented Adam Christopher Rhys, who brings his ‘Swing King’ vocals to the occasion. Direct from his recent tour of Australia, and having completed three seasons in the smash hit musical ‘Jersey Boys’ (starring as one of the original Four Seasons, Nick Massi), Adam will be covering much-loved favourites from the likes of Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.
In addition, The Polka Dots will be performing as part of our D-Day 80th Anniversary entertainment! With classic songs from legends such as Glenn Miller and the Andrews Sisters as well as cheeky retro twists on modern numbers from the likes of Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston – delivered with pizazz, professionalism and plenty of interaction – they are sure to get everyone on their feet!
