Lights, camera, action! BFBS TV and the Victory Services Club

Some members may have seen crew from BFBS TV with their equipment around the Club in August. Paul Condon, Producer and Director of BFBS Television and Lewis Bartley, Cameraman were at the Club to film a TV advert to raise awareness about your Club and will be aired to our servicemen on BFBS TV from the early Autumn.

'Paul's Marathon Challenge' for the ABF The Soldier's Charity

London Marathon weekend sees the Club full of runners taking on the challenge of the marathon.

This year Victory Services Club member Paul French and his two grandsons, James Rann and Tom Rann, who have been long term supporters of ABF The Solders’ Chairty, took on the 2010 Virgin London Marathon to raise fund for soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need.

This is known to be the first time that a granddad has run the London Marathon with grandsons and are pictured at the ABF Soldiers Charity reception in Wellington Barracks. They raised an incredible £2872 in fundraising but would love to reach their target of £3K. New website for Forces Families which has now received support from Dame Vera Lynn

Dame Vera Lynn has given her blessing to a unique website to support forces families.

A message from wartime singing sensation Vera is now proudly displayed on the home page of www.forceschatter.co.uk

The Forces Chatter site offers a wealth of information for parents, partners and friends of the British armed forces. The aim is to help them cope with having loved ones serving abroad in Afghanistan, Iraq or elsewhere. And Dame Vera has given her wholehearted approval, saying: "What a good idea this website is and an opportunity for people to express their feelings and also problems, and to know someone is sharing these times with them. I know it helps enormously."

Military mum Judith Bray, who created the site, was thrilled to get the endorsement from the wartime singing sensation, and is now trying to spread news of Forces Chatter to families across the country.

We have a proud history of serving members of the armed forces in the UK. For over a hundred years we have been there for Veterans, old and young; those currently serving in the armed forces and their families, and have provided a home from home.

We think it’s time the children of the armed forces community were saluted too for all the love and support they give you, your partners’ and your parents for all the bravery, devotion and loyalty you have given.

We’d like to give them the chance to be involved in what you do and in your life. Drawing their experience of what life is like in the armed forces community will not only be a fantastic opportunity for you to see your life through their minds, but their drawing could win them a fantastic all expenses paid break for up to six members of the family in London.

March 4 Honour

A young VSC Member is speed marching an individually dedicated mile for every UK loss sustained in Afghanistan & Iraq

Ram Patten, VSC member, and Royal Marines Commando serving in Plymouth is raising funds for a honourable initiative. He decided to speed march a sponsored mile to mark each loss the British Armed Forces have sustained since the beginning of Operation Herrick in Afghanistan and Operation Telic in Iraq.

In order to raise funds he created ‘The March For Honour’ a Tri-Service unification of four teams represented by the Royal Marines Commandos, the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force. The four teams will start from four separate locations in the UK (check the route), raising money on behalf of the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal 2010 and Veterans, who have sustained physical and mental injuries, including the bereaved families of that Killed In Action.

The Royal Marines will start from Plymouth, The Royal Navy from Portsmouth, The Army from St Athan and the Royal Air Force from RAF Wittering. The four teams will cover a distance of 30 miles per day and converge onto Wootton Bassett. The…
